Hurtigruten Expeditions
HX, formerly Hurtigruten Expeditions, is a specialist expedition cruise line focused on remote, nature-rich destinations and experience-led exploration. It is now distinct from Hurtigruten, which continues to operate the classic Norwegian Coastal Express and coastal voyages.
HX operates a fleet of five expedition ships: MS Fram, MS Santa Cruz II, MS Roald Amundsen, MS Spitsbergen and MS Fridtjof Nansen. The fleet is designed for small-ship expedition travel, combining comfortable accommodation with expert-led discovery, science, sustainability and active exploration.
Destinations include Antarctica, the Galápagos Islands, Greenland, Svalbard, Iceland, Alaska, Norway, the Northwest Passage and Arctic Canada, South America, the British Isles and selected European itineraries. Voyages are designed to take guests beyond traditional cruising routes, with landings, lectures, wildlife encounters and opportunities to understand the landscapes, cultures and ecosystems visited.
On board, guests can expect an informal expedition atmosphere, specialist expedition teams, Science Centres, talks and workshops, locally inspired dining and equipment for activities such as landings, nature walks and small-boat exploration where conditions allow. HX also offers an all-inclusive expedition experience, with inclusions designed to make remote travel simpler and more seamless.
Sustainability, science and education are central to the HX experience. The fleet includes hybrid-powered expedition ships, while guest programmes support citizen science, research partnerships and deeper engagement with the natural world.
Recent recognition includes Best Expedition Cruise at the Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards in both 2025 and 2026, Expedition Cruise Line of the Year at the 2025 TTG Travel Industry Awards, Best in Adventure and Best in Arctic at the 2025 Cruise Critic Awards, and Best Expedition Cruise Line plus Best Sustainability Initiative at the 2025 Wave Awards.
